Kickoff to Summer.
Oh what a month it has been. The business has kept me steadily busy which is a great thing. The amount of cakes that were ordered for graduations, birthdays, anniversaries, and weddings reassured myself that life is starting to return to some sort of post covid normalcy. There was a two week period in this past month where I was making one to three cakes a day. I was waiting for my housemates to complain about the constant smell of fresh baked cake. If you can believe it, I went through 20 pounds of butter and 30 pounds of powdered sugar in about a week. I was able to tweak my recipe for my buttercream frosting causing me to love it even that much more. It is this reason why I stick with my fitness routine and the importance of utilizing the healthy Teal Meals as well. The meal plan program has kicked off quite well. The constant feedback I receive from clients is sentimental for the fact that it just now sets in that I am helping improve the lives of others and not just myself.
I’ve been fortunate enough to reflect back upon my thoughts as I write this post traveling from Washington State back to Washington DC. The past week was extremely fun filled and packed with getting to see so many friends and family. It started off with my brother and I surprising my entire family for my mother’s 60th birthday. I secretly flew into town and just showed up at his house. If any of you know my mother, you’ll know that she absolutely loves to do this to everyone else in the family. It was nice to be able to do it to her for a change. We then spent the next few days catching up and celebrating the birthdays of mom and both of my nephews. We have a fair amount of birthdays within the month of mid May to mid June. It was nice to be able to see everyone and reconnect after dealing with the covid pandemic and moving across the country. This was the first time I saw everyone in person since 2019.
The second half of my trip to Washington State was jam packed with events celebrating the wedding of Tom and Kayla. It was amazing to embrace and witness the love they have for each other. Kayla is the closest thing I have to a big sister. She is always there no matter what during the good, the bad, and the ugly. I can’t thank Ken and Donna so much for having two amazing girls that I am able to have in my life; DeAnn, my best friend, and Kayla, her/our sister. The Brown family has instilled the value in the fact that you can have your blood related family and also other family as well. I’m more than happy that I was able to help welcome Tom into the family. This weekend was also spent meeting so many great new friends while reconnecting with people from years past.
My favorite part of traveling and connecting with others is the allotment of time to reflect on life and its journey. This trip has definitely created some things to think about as I spend the next six hours confined to a small airplane seat. There will be some new adventures coming up over the next month. At least one trip planned out of state, a major holiday is coming up, peak time of summer to go out and enjoy the heat and humidity. East coast life is going quite well! Who knew this Alaskan growing up to love the snow and cold would thrive so well in the exact opposite climate.? I hear so many of you love virtually accompanying me in my travels. If you could pick one city for me to travel to and explore, where would it be?
I appreciate you and all you do in supporting me through this journey of life and it’s travels.
